What Are The 4 Types Of EMT Connectors?

Nov 11, 2023

Electrical Metallic Tubing (EMT) connectors are used in electrical installations to connect EMT conduit to junction boxes, enclosures, or other conduits. There are several types of EMT connectors available, each serving a specific purpose. The four common types of EMT connectors are:

Set-Screw Connectors: Set-screw connectors are one of the most common types. They consist of a metal connector with set screws (screws with a small, recessed head) that tighten down onto the EMT conduit, securing it in place. These connectors are relatively easy to install and provide a strong connection.

Compression Connectors: Compression connectors feature a compression ring or ferrule that compresses onto the EMT conduit as the connector is tightened. This design creates a watertight seal and provides a strong connection. Compression connectors are often used in wet or outdoor environments where moisture resistance is essential.

Squeeze Connectors: Squeeze connectors, also known as Squeeze-Type Connectors or Squeeze Connectors, have a hinged design. When the connector is squeezed or compressed, it clamps onto the EMT conduit, creating a secure connection. Squeeze connectors are quick and easy to install and do not require any additional hardware.

Set-Screw Couplings: Set-screw couplings are used to join two EMT conduits together. They have set screws on both ends, allowing you to secure two EMT conduits within the coupling. Set-screw couplings are often used to extend conduit runs or join separate conduit sections.

The choice of EMT connector type depends on the specific requirements of the electrical installation, including the environment, the need for moisture resistance, and the ease of installation. It's important to select the appropriate connector type to ensure a secure and compliant connection in your electrical system.
