IMC, short for Intermediate Metal Conduit, is a steel raceway of circular cross section, which is threaded, and nominally 10′ long. TOPELE IMC pipe is manufactured according to UL 1242 and ANSI C80.6, Electrical Intermediate Metal Conduit – Steel.
Conduit IMC is designed as a thin-wall alternative to RMC (rigid metal conduit) that weighs about one-third less. IMC conduit is interchangeable with RMC. Both electrical conduit pipes use the same conduit fittings.
